Mixed Media Fugitives
Fredian Slips are created from a love for forms and colors merged with ceramics, resin, natural materials, metals and anything else available that seems to be fair game.
Whimsical, macabre, absurd; they are born of the twinkling of an idea and then, to a large extent, build themselves. Sculptural objects, masks, necklaces with pendants, paintings, bronze pieces, and photographs (and at times an amalgamation of all) comment on the beauty and absurdity of life.
Each is unique, a one of a kind figment, created from a wide variety of materials and objects from local and global sources. Paintings may be on canvas, board, wrinkled cardboard, or who knows what.
They incorporate elements that are fabricated, rummaged, donated, purchased, purloined, basically anything that is available and seems appropriate.
The artist does not take total responsibility (who does any more?) for these creations. They are, in large part, autonomic, created by themselves. They are a celebration of the eccentric.
Fredian slips are designed to be indoor decorations. Some can be worn. All of the necklaces can and should be worn. They should not be consumed, although parts of many were edible in a past incarnation.
